Understanding the thermal ceiling in portable power
Wireless charging performance is limited less by power delivery than by the physics of heat, and solving it requires rethinking the hardware. Plug a phone into a modern charger and the first 10 minutes are impressive. The next 20 are not. This is not a defect. It's the connected device protecting itself. As temperature rises during charging, a smartphone's battery management system reduces the current it will accept, because heat accelerates the chemical degradation that permanently reduces battery capacity.
Google Pixel 11 Series, Pixel Watch 5, Pixel Tag: Specs, Features, Price, Release Date
The Pixel 11 smartphone lineup is here, alongside the Pixel Watch 5 and the all-new Pixel Tag. Google is dialing things up to 11 this year with its Pixel phones . Ahead of its annual Made by Google event in New York City, the company unwrapped the Pixel 11 smartphone family--which includes the Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL, and Pixel 11 Pro Fold--alongside the Pixel Watch 5 smartwatch . There's also a new hardware addition: the Pixel Tag, which seems designed to be the AirTag of the Android world. Here's everything you need to know about the hardware changes and software upgrades on Google's latest devices.
Motorola's New Razr Folding Phones Command a Higher Price and Few Upgrades
Say hello (Moto) to price hikes on all three of Motorola's latest Razr flip phones. Like clockwork, Motorola is back with a new set of Razr folding flip phones . The formula is the same as last year, with three phones differing in specs and price: the Razr Ultra, Razr+, and Razr. But alongside these models, Motorola is finally launching its first-ever book-style folding phone, the Razr Fold, which it first teased at CES 2026 . The company announced the new handsets at an event in Los Angeles, where it also revealed a new pair of Moto Buds 2 Plus wireless earbuds that look eerily like Apple's AirPods Pro, but in blue; these will retail for $150 and will be available on April 30.
An Inside Look at Lego's New Tech-Packed Smart Brick
Lego's next release is a digital brick loaded with sensors that add new layers of interactivity to its play sets. WIRED got exclusive access to the Lego labs where the Smart Brick was born. The secretive division of 237 staff based here and in London, Boston, and Singapore is dedicated to thinking up what comes next for the world's largest toy brand. In front of me, on a plain white table, is a batch of prototypes of Lego's new Smart Brick, the final version of which is a small, sensor-laden 2-by-4 black brick with a big brain. No outsider has seen these prototypes, all of which represent stages of a journey Lego has been charting over the past eight years. Lego hopes this innovation, which lands in stores March 1, will safeguard the future of its plastic empire. The diminutive proportions of the finished Smart Brick belie the fact that the thing is exceedingly clever. Inside is a tiny custom chip running bespoke software that can communicate with onboard sensors to monitor and react to motion, orientation, and magnetic fields. It's also likely no exaggeration that the Smart Brick could represent the most radical product Lego has produced since Jens Nygaard Knudsen, the company's former longtime chief designer, created the minifigure nearly 50 years ago.
Gear News of the Week: Apple's AI Wearable and a Phone That Can Boot Android, Linux, and Windows
Plus: Asus exits the smartphone market, and Sony partners with TCL on TVs. After delaying its Siri improvements to 2026, Apple's artificial intelligence plans are starting to take shape, at least according to the rumor mill. Bloomberg reports that Apple is turning Siri into a chatbot that will replace the voice assistant's existing interface, akin to OpenAI's ChatGPT. Codenamed Campos, the chatbot will be powered by Google's Gemini models and will be integrated into the iPhone, Mac, and iPad in their respective operating system updates later this fall. We'll likely learn more about Campos at Apple's developer event, WWDC, which usually takes place in June.
OnePlus 15 Review: A Phone With Two-Day Battery Life
It doesn't look or feel quite like a OnePlus phone, but with speed and battery life like this, who cares? Doesn't get too warm while gaming. Software update policy still doesn't match that of Apple, Google, or Samsung. Cameras are still a step below the top dogs. OnePlus has been churning out Android smartphones for over a decade, yet it still feels like the company is fighting an uphill battle to get a foothold in the US.
Wireless Charging a 2026 Porsche Cayenne Electric
Porsche's much-anticipated 2026 EV has charging tech akin to a giant Qi puck. But what happens when Mittens or Fido gets in the way of 11 kilowatts invisibly flying through the air? Yes, it's still a prototype, but Porsche is finally letting people experience what it's next electric car will be like when it hits production next year. We got a briefing on the underpinnings of the new architecture for the Cayenne Electric, peeked at the very fancy finalized interior, and experienced a few hot laps being driven by one of Porsche's professional drivers. However, the highlight was, oddly, none the above, it was getting to try out the Cayenne Electric's party trick and experience exactly how Porsche's wireless charging system works for the EV, and how ridiculously similar the process is to plonking your phone down on a Qi charging puck .
